Yorel Warr
Photography Series
Artist Statement
This series of photos was taken in Cleveland, Ohio during the BLM protests of 2020, sparked by the unlawful killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis Police.
It is not a new story, but one that highlights the continued fight for racial equality in America. The fight that many have fought before. These images capture raw emotions as Cleveland residents united for peace, clashed with police, and grieved. The series gives viewers an idea of what it is like being a Black photographer documenting our own history. It is an attempt to write a new history with transparency.
