Artist Statement
Alternative agencies are a viable means of transforming the racist criminal justice system.
I created this animated short film to reveal the implicit racism in the police institution. My goal was to envision alternatives to law enforcement, as well as better police practices, which can begin healing our overburdened Black and brown populace. I hope viewers will consider the variety of options out there for keeping a community safe (or strategize to create their own) and also contemplate how history has created a bias in American policing.
